Highlights...

 CIVIL WAR REENACTMENT

On Wednesday, February 20th, there were loud booms that were heard all over the city of LaBelle.  Yes, it is true that the sonic boom from space shuttle Atlantis was responsible for one of those booms, but an old Civil War cannon and gun shots were responsible for all the others.

Mayor Puletti said that City Hall received numerous phone calls throughout the day wondering why there were so many sonic booms.  Mrs. Brownlee's American History class, along with some other curious teachers and students, were able to experience those booms face-to-face.

In fact, some students were even responsible for pulling the rope to release the "boom" of the cannon.  Don't worry...there was not an actual cannon fired, just black powder.  The cannon blasts and gun shots were just some of the interesting parts of the presentation given by a Civil War reenactment group who host Civil War events all over Florida.

This live history presentation incorporated many more facets of the Civil War, including:  Civil War history, flags, uniforms, women's dress and social activities, and artillery.  The experience made history come alive for the students who were present.

We hope to bring back the reenactors again in the future and allow them bring the Civil War to life for a whole new group of students!
