2016/0602Also, this past week, LaBelle was well represented at the Fort Myers News-Press All-Area Athletic Awards Banquet, which featured NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, with a few athletic stand-outs from this year. Enrique Jimenez was a top three finalist for Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, finishing 12th overall at the Class 2A State Championship (16:31) and winning both the Region 2A-3 (16:27) and District 2A-12 races. Jordan Lopez was a top three finalist for Boys Basketball Player of the Year, helping end LaBelle's 18-year District Title drought, while averaging 22.7 points, five rebounds and three assists per game. Coach Jef Frost (Boys Cross Country, Boys Soccer), was a top three finalist for the first annual Jeff Sommer Coach of the Year Award, honoring the late Estero Coach and Athletic Director, Jeff Sommer. Frost led the Cowboys Boys Cross Country Program to District and Regional Titles before finishing fourth in the Class 2A State Meet and also led the Boys Soccer Team (16-3-2) to a District Title and Regional Semifinal appearance. Although LaBelle's Jimenez, Lopez and Frost did not win their respective award, the LaBelle community is proud of their accomplishments this year and for representing our community well in Southwest Florida Athletics.
