The Multiagency Network for Students with Emotional/Behavioral Disabilities (SEDNET8B)

Promotes a system of unified care, multiagency partnerships, positive provider-family relationships, integrated education, mental health, social services, optimal, accessible services for students with emotional/behavioral disorders and their families.

SEDNET is a nationally unique system of statewide collaboration essential to the success of students in need of integrated education and treatment services. SEDNET is funded through a grant awarded by the Bureau of Exceptional Students and Student Services, Florida Department of Education to provide the ongoing development of a comprehensive system of care and improve the range and quality of services available to school age children with, or at risk of, emotional disabilities or severe emotional disorders.

SEDNET 8B serves Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties through three specific components which facilitate improvement in the lives of community children:

    • Technical Assistance - Clinical consultation and case management is provided for teachers, specialists, parents and other state and local agency personnel to coordinate students’ educational programs with the delivery of community agency services. The SEDNET Project Manager works collaboratively with the Department of Children and Families (DCF), the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), and other agency case managers to facilitate an appropriate school placement or to assist students in obtaining other services in the community.  This assistance helps identify, coordinate and link community services which will best provide remediation, support and encouragement to eligible school children.
    • The provision and dissemination of information on specific training, curriculum resources and staff development for teachers, specialists, parents and other interested community groups and individuals.
    • Staff participation in Individual Education Plan development to provide recommendations and support consistent with recognized best practices of child centered, family focused and least restrictive initiatives, programs and services.

SEDNET serves students with complex mental health needs including those with bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, and other emotional/behavioral disorders.  Students served also includes those at risk with substance abuse, violence and suicide, and those involved in protective services, foster care, juvenile justice and at risk for or involved in residential treatment.
