Secondary Schools
Our district utilizes both Learning.com and Common Sense Education to provide comprehensive digital citizenship instruction for students in grades K–12. These Florida Department of Education-approved resources help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to use technology safely, responsibly, ethically, and effectively in school and beyond.
Through engaging lessons and age-appropriate activities, students learn about online safety, privacy, digital communication, media literacy, cyberbullying prevention, copyright and intellectual property, and building a positive digital footprint. Together, these programs support our district's commitment to preparing students to be responsible and successful digital citizens.
Common Sense Media
The Common Sense Education Digital Literacy & Well-Being Curriculum provides a research-backed, developmentally appropriate scope and sequence for students in grades K-8. Each grade level features 13 to 18 lessons, lasting approximately 20 minutes each, which cover six core topics:
- Healthy Habits: Finding balance in digital lives.
- Relationships & Communication: Valuing human connection.
- Privacy & Safety: Protecting ourselves and others online.
- Cyberbullying & Online Harms: Being kind and courageous.
- Digital Footprint & Identity: Defining who we are.
- Information & Media Literacy: Becoming critical thinkers and creators.
To help students thrive, the curriculum promotes essential skills paired with mindsets such as self-reflection, empathy, evaluating evidence, and taking responsibility. The overall approach seeks to acknowledge complexity, build resilience, promote agency, and cultivate a growth mindset.
