LHS STUDENT SELECTED FOR SLE AT WEST POINT
LaBelle High School's John Donges was selected to attend the Summer Leaders Experience at the U.S. Military Academy. The camp provides attendees with first hand knowledge of life at West Point. John's invitation to the prestigious summer camp also denotes mastery of the first hurdle towards acceptance into the Academy. The next step towards acceptance would be obtaining a nomination from a congressman or senator from our area. John maintains a 4.5 grade point average along with participating in dual enrolled classes at SWF State. John would be the fourth LaBelle High School student in the past seven years to be accepted to the Academy. John Marotti, LHS class of 2011, Morgan Pepitone, LHS class of 2013 , and Michael Martinez, LHS class of 2015, were all accepted to West Point. The LHS staff is very proud of John for working hard and following his dreams.

News-Press Article:
Thanks to Sun Coast Credit Union there are new Touchscreen Displays in classrooms!! These screens are helping students improve learning through the use of technology in the classroom. Pictured below is LHS student Nick Williams with one of the new displays.
LaBelle High School received their summer scores and would like to recognize teacher and student achievement. Mr. Cadet's AB and BC Calculus classes had a 100% pass rate. Mrs. Rodriguez's AP Spanish class had a 75% pass rate. Mrs. Bechtel's Biology class had 6 of 12 students pass and all students scored at the college ready level or above. The number of passing scores increased in World History, English Literature, Human Geography, Art, Statistics, Psychology, and Government. The curriculum from the AP program is more rigorous for students. College Board stresses the importance of scoring at least a score of 2 on the test. The score of 2 means the student will be college ready in that subject. Therefore, even if a student earns a 2, they benefit by increasing content knowledge when they make the commitment to engage in AP courses.
LHS has expanded the number of test taken from 230 in 2012 to a projection of over 500 for the 2016-17 school year. As a community, AP helps grow students and they reward teachers and schools that participate. Students can earn college credit for scores over 3. Schools and teachers earn monetary rewards for all passing exams. Parents are reminded to check summer assignments of their children and email AP teachers. If parents need any assistance or question about the LHS AP program please contact Dr. Iris Borghese or Mr. Kelley at 674-4120. Parents can also email kelleyd@hendry-schools.net.

Dear Parents and/or Guardians:
A person attending Labelle High School has been diagnosed with pertussis (whooping cough).
Pertussis is a communicable (contagious), vaccine-preventable disease that lasts for many weeks. It is transmitted person to person through direct contact with respiratory secretions or via droplets produced from talking or coughing. The illness begins with mild upper respiratory tract symptoms and progresses to spasms of severe coughing, whooping, and vomiting after coughing. Coughing can come in violent episodes. The name “whooping cough” comes from the high-pitched noise—a “whoop”—that infants and children make when they gasp for air after an episode.
Recommendations:
Please make sure your family’s vaccinations are up-to-date.
Older children and adults, including pregnant women, should get a one-time pertussis booster shot called “Tdap” to protect themselves and infants near or around them. The pertussis vaccine (contained in Tdap, DTP, and DTap – which provides immunity against tetanus, diphtheria, and PERTUSSIS) can help prevent this disease. Your child most likely had the Tdap vaccination since it is a requirement for school attendance.
If your child develops symptoms, please keep him/her home and contact your healthcare provider.
The Florida Department of Health in Hendry County is investigating and monitoring the situation. All close school contacts identified to date have been previously vaccinated.
Students & Parents,
We are happy to announce that on Monday, November 13, 2017 LaBelle High School will begin to implement our much anticipated 1:1 program initiative, which essentially allows every student to have access to their own Chromebook laptop throughout each school day. Our goal with this initiative is to increase student success and ensure that our students have the necessary technology skills to compete in a 21st century workplace.
Although we are very excited for this opportunity for our students, with great power comes great responsibility. Beginning on Monday, students will report to Homeroom at the beginning of each day to pick up their laptops and at the end of the day to store/charge their laptops. Students must carry their laptops from class to class in a provided protective case. Students are not permitted to take the laptops home and must store them in their Homeroom class at school. Students will be fully responsible for the laptop, meaning any damaged, lost, or stolen Chromebooks will result in a $300 obligation fee for the student. Therefore, I ask you that you please be careful and responsible with these educational tools.
A monitoring program called Go Guardian is also installed on each Chromebook device, allowing the school to closely monitor that everything done on the computer is for educational purposes only. The program also allows the school to track the location of each device. I ask that you please review the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) at https://www.hendry-schools.org/…/Student%20Procedures%20for…
Thank you.
